The $35 Project
It begins.
The longer I’ve lived in Brooklyn, the more I’ve wanted to have my own place. And the more I think about getting my own place, the more sense it makes to just buy one - I’ve rented long enough. And there are some great Brooklyn Heights buildings I’d love to live in. Case in point, this great pied-a-terre in The Remsen:

So the hunt is on… the only problem being, I tend to blow all of my cash on restaurants and vacations instead of accumulating a stash for a down payment. So my savings needs a little boost first.
Hence the $35 dollar project.
For the next… let’s say two years… every time I go for a run or spend an hour writing instead of going out, $35 goes in the bank. That’s $35 I’d otherwise spend on wine and beer. And considering I want to train for another half-marathon… I probably should drink less anyway. But that’s going to be a lot of nights at home, getting into shape, getting some freelance work done. (And blogging?)
Still, I think it’s a pretty decent trade off. Instead of spending money drinking empty calories at a bar, I’ll pay myself to run and write - and for a much bigger payoff. My very own apartment.
And hopefully a much tinier waistline.
Here goes.
